James McNicholas

Contemplative Soul, Design Enthusiast, Expert in Dry Humour.

A specialist in barbering and cutting, but also a qualified and experienced women’s stylist and makeup artist, I am dedicated to providing students with a blend of both traditional and modern training and techniques, including drawing on my past experience in shops and salons in Doncaster, Hull, Sheffield and Manchester. I am still working freelance, trading under James Jewel Design and I have made recent connections with The Great British Barber Bash & Barber Club. My department also works closely with other industry giants to ensure that Printworks students get high-quality, practical experience. But, most importantly, I enjoy motivating and inspiring students by demonstrating, discussing and helping students find effective techniques used in industry, helping students to connect college with employability and real-life experience.

I love what I do, both as a barber/stylist/mua and as a teacher. My hope is always that my students develop a real passion for barbering and hair and beauty, and enjoy discovering their specialisms. I believe strongly that a balance between creativity, discipline and enjoyment are key to getting the most out of our time together as staff and students in this exciting and fulfilling vocational department!
