Overview

Printing is carried out using printing presses; typically, the company’s most expensive and valuable machinery. There are 6 different categories of printing: lithography, screen, flexography, gravure, letterpress and digital. Each requires different techniques in order to operate successfully, and companies may use one or more categories of press depending on the customer needs. Job duties will include:

1. Handling the printing line.
2. Print quality control.
3. Acknowledgment of print compatibility with the design.
4. Mixing inks for production
5. Follow instructions and procedures
6. Line maintenance.
7. Maintaining order in the workplace
8. Maximizing capacity utilization of the machine
9. Working on the coating lines
10. Production reporting
11. adherence to the BRC / IOP, HACCP hygiene rules and environmental standards ISO 14001 described in procedures, instructions and in others Internal documents.
12. Applying the principles of the Quality Management System described in the procedures, instructions and other internal documents.

Training to be Delivered

Mode of delivery: Delivered in the work place with 1 day a month attendance required in college.

We will support and coach the apprentice through the apprenticeship standard. We will carry out both curriculum and pastoral care. We will carry out the skills development workshop days off site – once a month in college. The assessors will oversee the teaching and learning around the knowledge, behaviours and skills elements of the standard that supports the job role.

We will manage the apprentice’s OneFile account ensuring targets, milestones and deadlines are achieved.

Programme will include:

? Set up, run and maintain a specified type of multi-unit printing press at the appropriate speed and at quality levels dictated by the work instructions and company guidelines. This can include cleaning and servicing key elements or preparing the machine for the next shift.

? Deal with a wide range of different printing operations such as managing colour, handling inks/toners, cleaning and maintenance, or operating different types of printing press etc.

? Run printing presses optimally. They must identify and solve problems to keep the machine in good working order and to ensure that jobs are produced on-time, in-full and without waste.

? Use visual and computer aids so that colour and product specifications are within the expected tolerances.

? Make sure that the press is ready for the next job or shift. The ability to work well as part of a team

? Work to tight deadlines in a calm and professional manner. Able to maintain disciplines and focus under pressure

? Ensure that customer specification and company quality standards are met for colour and print quality
