Exciting Opportunity to be part of the Labcorp Drug Development 2022 Apprenticeship Program in the BioPharmCMC department in Harrogate. As an Apprentice Laboratory Technician within Labcorp Drug Development, you will play an integral role in supporting all aspects of laboratory and study support functions for our testing and development work


Following a comprehensive induction process and carefully-tailored training program, you will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of clinical trials and bringing miracles of medicine to market.

BioPharmCMC covers a wide range of pharmaceutical analysis methodologies and spans the drug development timeline. The laboratory technician team are a central role ensuring smooth and continuous operation of regulated laboratories.


What you’ll receive:

  • You’ll undertake an Advanced Apprenticeship in Laboratory Technician over the course of 24 months,
  • You will study for a Level 4 Science Qualification

Training to be Delivered

You will learn the following:

  • Routine and one-off laboratory testing and how to perform a variety of technical laboratory techniques;
  • Work both individually and as part of the laboratory team;
  • Work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that is undertaken;
  • Work safely in the laboratory, maintaining excellent housekeeping whilst following appropriate safety, environment and risk management systems;
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and be able to maintain good accurate written records of work carried out;
  • Follow quality procedures to meet the requirements of quality standards relevant to the workplace;
  • Develop and apply your theoretical knowledge of relevant science and technology;

An A-level in Biology or Chemistry preferred but not essential, or relevant work Experience or a level 3 science based qualification

Future Prospects

We have Opportunities in the following departments:

Genetic Toxicology – Looks at mutations and damage caused by test articles at the genetic level. This is tested on a range of cell lines by small specialist teams within the department. Genetic toxicology is one of the first phases of testing in the drug development process so we get to work on a wide range of test articles which makes the job diverse and challenging

Necropsy – Specialising in the accurate and efficient dissection of organs from a range of species. The apprenticeship program is well established and trains individuals in physical dissection skills, as well as a knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice and laboratory responsibilities.

Animal House Ops – Provide assistance and support with the day to day care of animals. Following a comprehensive induction process and carefully tailored training program you will acquire a comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of animal care and animal husbandry in a range of different species

BioPharmCMC – Covers a wide range of pharmaceutical analysis methodologies and spans the drug development timeline. The laboratory technician team are a central role ensuring smooth and continuous operation of regulated laboratories

Histology – Fast-paced laboratory based working environment. Histology processes tissues to produce stained slides for Pathology to evaluate. Histology uses manual and automated procedures to reach very high production levels so we are looking for individuals who are manually dexterous and have a real drive to succeed.

Bioanalytical – Cover the analysis of biological samples using various methodologies in the laboratory to determine the drug concentration. The analysis involves the use of automation for efficient and high throughput. The Laboratory Technician role is pivotal to the smooth and continuous running of Lab Operations.
